What is coronavirus?

A Coronavirus is a group of the virus, these viruses which harm mammals and birds, including camels, cattle, cats, and bats. And in humans the virus creates mild respiratory infection, Common cold, in the exceptional case, it may cause SARS– (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), MERS-CoV – (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus) and a Novel Coronavirus. This virus is transmitted from animals to humans, Until 2019 the virus is not affected humans and new coronavirus is called 2019-nCoV(2019 novel coronavirus).

“ According to WHO (World Health Organization), Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans. “

Symptoms 

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Runny nose
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • A general feeling of being unwell

Spreading 

  • Coronavirus spreads from person to person by close contacts, related to other respiratory illnesses.
  • Person-to-person spread is thought to occur mainly through respiratory droplets produced during an infected person coughs or sneezes. 
  • These droplets can settle in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.
  • It’s currently unclear if a person can get 2019-nCoV by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. 
  • Droplets of bodily fluids – such as saliva or mucus – from an infected person are separated in the air or on surfaces by coughing or sneezing.

Prevention 

These are normal precaution for Novel diseases 

  1. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, particularly after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after coughing or sneezing.
  2. We can also utilise an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  3. Avoid close touch with people who are sick.
  4. Stay home if you are sick.
  5. Cover your nose with a tissue while you cough or sneeze, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  6. Clean and sterilise frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  7. Use mask to cover your mouth and nose

Treatment 

 In Thailand, a Chinese woman was affected by the new coronavirus and she showed an improvement after she was treated with a cocktail of anti-virals used to treat flu & HIV. But that medicine cannot be considered as the antidote for the virus as it’s effectiveness is yet to be determined.
